Oedipus Complex

Oedipus complex, is a child's unconscious desire for the exclusive love of a parent of the opposite sex. This desire includes jealousy of the parent of the same sex, and an unconscious wish for that parents death. The term Oedipus Complex was first used by Sigmund Freud, an Austrian Psychologist. Originating from the Greek myth of Oedipus, a hero, who unknowingly killed his father and married his mother. Originally this complex was used to describe the feelings of children of both sexes towards their parents. It is now more common for these feelings, to be called Electa Complex in girls. Electra coming from another Greek legend, where a woman named Electra helped to plan the murder of her mother.
