What is the theme of "The Bet" by Anton Chekhov? Is a short story by Anton Chekhov . The theme is about a banker and a young man who make a bet about whether capital punishment is worse than serving life in prison. The wager is if the lawyer can live in confinement for 15 years he would be given 2 million rubles. Meanwhile the banker id going broke and won't be able to pay the wager.
