Dutch Split Door

Dutch split doors originated in the Netherlands. These doors featured a unique design since the top and bottom door halves opened and closed independently from one another. First used as an exterior door, the bottom half of the door kept dried leaves and dust from blowing in while the top half remained open, letting in the fresh air. These doors also feature a locking mechanism was added to secure the two halves so it could work as a standard door. Dutch split doors offer a certain charm, and are still used to day at home and in office settings. Find more information at http://homeimprovement.lovetoknow.com/Dutch_Split_Door.
