The main function of a test tube is to hold a small amount of material. This material is generally used in an experiment. The test tube is made specifically to be heated or cooled during chemical experiments without breaking. Test tubes can also be tapped with a cork to store material. Labeled test tubes are often used to coordinate and identify different materials and data.
