Melting Point of Steel

The melting pint of steel depends on the exact chemical composition of the steel. If you take a carbon steel it consists of mainly iron and up to 2.0% carbon and no other alloy elements. With this type of steel the melting point varies between 1540 degrees C and 1400 degrees C which gradually declines with the increase of carbon content. On another note iron taken from the ground melts around 1510 degrees C. Steel often starts to melt around 1370 degreed C. This also depends on the ally composit.
