Overcoming Communication Barriers

The common communication barriers include noise, feedback, media selection, mental, word selection, time and space, relationship and empathy and final oberservations. There are many things you can do to overcome these communication barriers. Noise is pretty obvious if you know where the noise is coming from stop it or move to a place where there is no noise. Be sure you provide feedback so they know to do the same. Knowing how to communicate your information can deal with the media selection. If it is quick and to the point say it out loud, if it detailed then write it out. The mental barrier needs to be made aware and you need to ensure they are listening. Use words that are familiar to the individual you are talking to, don't use complex words. Make sure to use the right time and space to communicate. Finally provide empathy and support to the person you are communicating with. When it is all said and done reflect back on it and see if you did something incorrect or missed something.
