To Whom It May Concern Letters

To whom it may concern letters are used when the addressee is unknown. Two questions concern these letters. The first question, "Do you capitalize to whom it may concern?" is a popular one. Many "experts" disagree amongst themselves. The two most popular options are to capitalize only the T in to or to capitalize the first letter of all words. Capitalizing all words is more old-school. It's become more acceptable to only capitalize the first word. That said, the second question becomes even more important, "Why would someone send one?" In today's internet linked world, one should be able to identify either a specific individual to address or at the very least, a title. Remember, first impressions count.
