It is possible to calculate beta in Excel. To calculate beta, you must use the proper equation. Excel calculates a population covariance, so the denominator MUST be a population variance (VarP, not Var). To demonstrate this, remember that the market beta is always 1. An example of the formula for calculating beta would be: =covar(market, market)/varp(market).
