Formula to Calculate Azimuth

There is a web site that will use an online formula to calculate the distance and azimuth between two sets of coordinates on Earth. Azimuth is a reference to True North. The shortest distance between two points on the surface of a sphere is an arc not a line like is commonly believed. Similarly like using a string on a globe to determine distance. You can find the web site at: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/distance.html . Another website that you can look at that will give all the formulas is: http://www.imaginerc.com/software/GeoCalc .

This program will calculate the distance and azimuth (referenced to True North) between two sets of coordinates on the earth. Bearings or azimuths start with 0 degrees toward true north, 90 degrees east, 180 degrees south, and 270 degrees west (clockwise rotation).

True North online (azimuth) ... The same calculation can be made at KMS, as calculation of azimuth, and the price is Dkr. 270,- + tax for a single point. The results above have been tested against azimuth calculations from KMS.

To learn that, you have to calculate the azimuth angle. On one hand, you might begin to tremble; after all that's spherical trigonometry, right? Once you know the formula, though, you can plug in the numbers and never look back.
