Letter Salutations

There are many letter salutations that can be used. Salutations are often used at the beginning of a letter. For informal, friendly or family letters some appropriate opening salutations are Hell, Dear, To my..., etc. For more formal or business salutations, a Dear Sir/Madam format is often used. Professional titles such as "Doctor" are often preferred to Mr. of Mrs in a formal salutation. There are often specific forms of address for officials such as the President of the United States. Formal letters to officials may include, "Dear Mr. (Madam) President," "Dear Judge ....", and "Excellency..."
