Orifice Plate Calculations

An orifice plate measures the flow rate in pipe systems. The orifice plate creates a pressure drop. The flow rate can be measured depending on the magnitude of the pressure drop. The orifice plate works well for large tube diameters and for dirty fluid when the turbines are not applicable. Liquids and gases can both be used with the orifice plate calculations. Calculations is for incompressible flow, based on the Bernoulli principle.

Orifice plate is used for flow rate measuring in pipe systems. With orifice plate, pressure drop is created. Based on the value of pressure drop, flow rate can be calculated. This instrument is very practical for large tube diameters and for dirty fluid when turbines are not applicable.

Most orifice plate calculations are performed according to the internationally accepted standard ISO 5167. All orifice calculation data is checked towards the limits of the standard and the calculation reports includes both documented accuracies from ISO 5167 and warnings for data out of range.
