I find that music is a motivator for me. If it’s something I don’t really find interesting, I’ll put music on and try to begin on it after a long series of procrastinating! In this way, I’m not really studying this boring stuff that I really have to do, I’m just listening to some good music.

I know many good students who used to study with music on. Listening to music while studying will not affect ability to concentrate. ... i certainly think the studying/working in a quiet/peaceful place would improve your work...and nothing would distract you...and you qould concentrate more to ur work..instead to the music...

In doing so, I find that listening to classical music, ... Listening to instrumental Indian Classical, preferably Narayan’s Sarangi really helped me focus my attention while studying maths. Western classical instrumental also works VERY well indeed. like you, lyrics can tend to distract me when doing non-mathetical reading.

Listening to music with headphones is like sitting in one of those carrels that teachers put kids in so they are away from the other students. When a kid listens to the music this way he isolates himself from others and is not distracted by them and does not distract them.
