Discovery School calls this interactive worksheet a "solver." Enter a long division problem (such as 2345 divided by 54) and you'll get two answers. The first is the decimal answer you'd get from a calculator (43.4259). The second is the quotient with a remainder (43 R 23) along with all the "show your work" steps.

Many students have trouble with division, perhaps because most problems don't come out nice and even--you really have to use your mental muscle when dividing. Fortunately, we have calculators to make the job easier--but that doesn't mean you shouldn't learn how to do it yourself!

I use this lesson after I have introduced the basic steps of long division. The students have a hard time remembering the steps involved, and that they need to repeat the steps. I came up with an acronym for the steps.
