Yes, these positive feedback loops taken together are what the media called the 'tipping point' a few years back. I don't see that terminology used as often these days. I like it better because it implies that all the natural processes ... And one of the most reassuring aspects is the presence of negative feedback loops.

CRE(2C) loop mutants were analysed for their capacity to serve as template for VPg uridylylation and to induce negative- and positive-strand synthesis using HeLa S10 cell extracts. Here, we provide evidence that the CVB3 CRE(2C) is involved in the initiation of both negative- and positive-strand RNA synthesis.

Similar to the results observed for poliovirus and rhinovirus, it was found that a complete disruption of the CRE(2C) structure interfered with positive-strand RNA synthesis, but not with negative-strand synthesis.
