UNESCO published a book entitled What makes a Good Teacher? (1996). Over 500 children from some 50 countries aged 8-12 contributed their opinions. What follows are some of their responses. You can also submit ... A good teacher makes herself available to all students, however, knows which students need extra assistance.

What makes a good teacher? Like all good recipes, the ingredients for a teacher's success in the classroom are simple, easy to follow, and allow for personal interpretation to enhance the result. Primarily, a teacher's goal is to motivate her students to reach beyond their grasp.

I missed the day where a student panel from the ELC was asked some questions about what makes a good teacher and what a good teacher should do in some classroom situations. I contacted three students at the ELC and interviewed them to find out their opinions.

When hiring teachers, I think that evaluators ask themselves this not so simple question. Now that I am at the end of the semester and my first set of blocks, I think that I have a good idea of what I believe makes a good even great teacher and therefore what evaluators look for in good teachers.
