Gloom Despair and Agony on Me
Gloom, despair and agony on me is a song originally sung by Buck Owens and Roy Clark. The song became especially popular when an ongoing segment on the TV show Hee Haw featured the actors and actresses telling their hardships to this favorite tune. The sketch was usually performed by four male cast members dressed in hillbilly clothes and holding moonshine jugs. They would sing the song and give a mournful 'whoaaa' after each few lines.The exciting part about the song was that although the lyrics stayed the same, the comedy part was written anew for each show and you never knew what they would say afterward. In later years, they added a new twist and added in a segment with the women singing Gloom, despair and agony on me. They changed up the lyrics a bit to suit them and it was wildly successful.
