Scientists in Australia have developed an apple that won't rot. Or, won't rot for a long, long time. The delicious-sounding RS103-130 apple is a rare cross-breed 20 years in the making, cooked up by researchers at Australia's Queensland Primary Industries and Fisheries.

I. Introduction: Black rot is a fungal disease that can cause serious losses in apple orchards, especially in warm, humid areas. Three forms of the disease can occur: a fruit rot, a leaf spot known as frogeye leaf spot, and a limb canker.

On peach and nectarine, the same fungus causes a disease known as anthracnose, and on grape it causes ripe rot. The primary hosts, however, are apple and pear. The canker phase of the disease is rare; therefore, the discussion below is limited to fruit infection.

Subject: Why doesn't the Apple Rot? ... My instructor put an apple and a bologna sandwich in the same plastic baggy at the same time in september. The sandwich is GONE! ! The Apple is just now (February) beginning to rot (grow fungus). Why did it take so long compared to the sandwich?
