Build Crayfish Trap
To build crayfish trap it takes required materials which are, about 1 - 2' X 5' Roll of 1/4" hardware cloth or 1/2 " , 1 roll of stainless steel tie wire or even nylon ties.To build the crayfish trap you first cut piece of the hardware cloth 2' by 28" long and go from there. As you may guess by now I am VERY MUCH against the use of hardware cloth for building crayfish traps! It takes a lot of time to build a crayfish trap and have it ruined because of inferior material.

Commercial Crayfish Trap: This trap is as big as a crawfish trap can get! In the past I have build several dozen different sizes bigger but anything bigger then this does not catch crayfish well and the catch is actually reduced several times.

At first my imagination ran wild trying to build some productive crayfish traps. Look at my old collection of both open traps, (left front) and some traditional homemade round traps (top left and center). Then, right, my first trap made from a mesh fish basket with a wooden lath holding it open for the hungry critters.

Then a friend of mine and I started debating about how big a crayfish trap should be, and I came up with the idea of the JUMBO. This trap, the Jumbo crayfish trap, is nothing but a Trapper crayfish trap that's a a bit bigger.
