Buttermilk Substitute for Cooking

The buttermilk substitute that my Mom taught me many years ago has worked well in every recipe that I have used it in. As it is cheaper than buying some at the store we tend to use it more often. Take 1 cup of milk and add 1Tablespoon of lemon juice to it. Stir it around and allow to sit for 15 minutes.

I always seem to not have buttermilk on hand when I need it. I've used the powdered milk and vinegar version of this which works well, but today I didn't have ...
