I know that I used to have to make two chocolate cookies. The recipe was essentially the same, but one was plain and the other checkerboard. The checkerboard cookies required powdered sugar instead of regular - it made the dough a little more forgiving of all the manipulation.

I used the shell recipe many years ago. It has a better taste and consistency to it then the ones made with wine. Being Italian I did not follow the filling recipe because we use powdered sugar instead of regular white sugar.
