In a self-defrosting freezer, poor cooling often results from a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel inside your freezer. But if you see any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, ceiling, or floor of your freezer, it's a sure sign of frost build-up.

Inspect the back wall of the freezer for any frost build up. It's not normal to have any frost on the back wall or floor of a self-defrosting appliance. The presence of frost is normally an indication the self-defrosting system has a problem.

If you are getting frost build up in the freezer, mainly around the upper middle on bottom freezer fridges take note. LG is having many problems with their insulation process at the factory. I have found that the light switch is the source.

: I have water spilling from the freezer side of my Kenmoore side-by-side. Initialy I thought it was the ice maker spilling over so ... I guesse this is what is causing the ice/water build. After about a 1-1.5 weeks there would so much build up that the water just spills through the front door. What could the probelm be?

I have a frost-free Maytag Upright Freezer but it has gotten a lot of ice build-up on the bottom on the inside. Is this normal, a clog or something worse? Thanks, Scott ; Answer;

I have a frost free freezer only about 5 or 6 yrs old and lately I have been getting frost in it on the top. I thought maybe I was getting left open so I put a piece of velcro on it to ... Hope it works. You may also want to check that your seals are gripping properly or this will rapidly cause a large build-up of ice.
