Small patches of garlic mustard plants can be hand-pulled before the flowers appear. The entire root must be removed because the plant can regrow from a broken root crown.; Cutting the garlic mustard's flower stalks can also get rid of garlic mustard seeds in small areas.

Fire may be useful to get rid of large invasions of garlic mustard. The area must be burned for two years in a row to kill these plants. Unfortunately fire may also kill wildflowers and seedlings of desirable plants in the area.
