Today I made Gooseberry cake, and it is so nice I wanted to share it with you lot... :); The original recipe is here, but I've changed enough of it to also give you my own version (my changes are starred, explanations at the footnote which is rather long so you may ignore it): ( Gooseberry Cake );

Place egg white in a piping bag and pipe diagonal lines across gooseberry cake. Bake cake for 30 more minutes at 300°F (150°C). Remove from oven and let slightly cool before placing cake onto cooling rack.

Spoon into a buttered, round 20cm cake tin and level off with a knife. You will need a cake tin with a loose bottom or a springform one so that you don’t lose all your flaked almonds when you turn it out. Next, toss the gooseberries in the sugar that you kept aside and spread them on top of the cake.

Mix cream with egg yolks, whisk lightly, add the breadcrumbs and allow to swell for a while. Melt the fat. Beat the egg whites stiff. Add the gooseberry compote and fat to the breadcrumb mixture and last add the egg whites.

This looks fantastic Ivy. I have never seen gooseberry liquer before, but I think it would be wonderful in this cake. I would like to make this for a special occasion.
