I vaguely remember years ago a Hints from Heloise that told how to melt together all those little remainder pieces of soap that end up in the bathroom. It's not quite as simple as just melting the pieces together, but I've given up trying ... Alternate layers ending with melted soap until the bar is as big as you want.

Well melting would indicate that it is changing from its solid state to its liquid state. When you put soap in water it doesn't really do that. The sufactant in the soap stays in the same state.
