Eastern lubber grasshopper is found throughout the state, and is also common in other southeastern states. There is but a single generation annually, but either nymphs or adults are present throughout most of the year in the southern portions of Florida, and all except the coldest months in northern Florida.

The lubber is surely the most distinctive grasshopper species within the southeastern United States. It is well known both for its size and its unique coloration. Adult males and females are usually 2.5 and 3.0 inches, long, respectively.
