I have some veg shortening and I'm wondering wheth ... I have some veg shortening and I'm wondering whether that would be a good substitute for veg suet when making mincemeat. I have read somewhere that maybe grating creamed coconut would work. Has anyone tried either of these in mincemeat?

Suet is difficult to find so I'm looking for a substitute also. Let me know what works. It is for an old family recipe of Christmas suet pudding that has raisins and currants in it and is served with a brandy sauce.
