The young crawfish eat seeds; invertebrates that use the microbially enriched plant debris, or detritus, as food; and the debris itself. They grow to harvestable sizes of three to four inches through the winter into the spring.

They come out at night and I assume they must eat insects. I teased one with a blade of grass and he thought it was a tasty morsel. An interesting thing that I have found...one of the holes located in my raised bed flower garden is directly below a rose moss plant.
