If you are making a fudge you must reach a "soft ball" stage for the sugar. If you are making a brittle of some type you must cook the sugar to a "hard-crack" stage. It should work without a ... I bet you didnt boil it long enough :/. but fudge usually takes FOREVER to harden. leave it overnight in the fridge :)

I had problems with my fudge last year and I did the stupidest thing and threw out 2 batches in the garbage. So I literally threw money away. Then I read that if your fudge doesn't harden the way it should, you can use the fudge to frost a batch of brownies.

A recipe for vegan pumpkin fudge with walnuts made the old fashioned way. ... If you don't beat it long enough, the fudge won't harden and you'll be left with frosting. Beat it until it has lost its gloss and is almost too hard to beat anymore but not hardened to the point that you can't get it out of the pan.
