Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue is caused by low levels of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol is often referred to as the "stress hormone" because your body normally makes it to help the adrenal glands deal with all types of stresses, whether mental, physical, or environmental. If a person is over-stressed for long periods of time, or the pituitary gland and hypothalamus do not produce enough stimulation hormone, the adrenals can become fatigued. Adrenal fatigue exhibits itself in a number of ways, like: sleep problems, depression, physical and mental fatigue, in severe cases, hypoglycemia. Cortisol levels can be tested through a person's saliva to be evaluated for adrenal fatigue. Replacement cortisol can be prescribed if needed. It's important to seek a endocrinologist's care to be sure you have the problem under control.
