Average Pulse Rate

A pulse rate is the rhythm of the heart beat that you can feel if you press your fingers to one of your pulse points. The common pulse locations are on the side of your neck and on your inner wrist. The average pulse rate of an adult while resting is 60 to 100 beats per minute. This will vary greatly in adults who are ill. During sleep the pulse rate can drop down as low as 40 beats per minute. During high energy exercise it can get up to 200 beats per minute! Pulse rates in children typically run higher than adults because they're small bundles of energy who rarely sit still!
