Causes of Feet and Ankle Swelling
Causes of foot and ankle swelling are common in certain situations including prolonged standing, long airplane flights or automobile rides, menstrual periods, pregnancy,being overweight, age, and/or injury to ankle or foot. Other conditions that can cause swelling to one or both legs can include a blood clot, leg infection, varicose veins, burns, insect bites or stings, and/or blockage of the lymph nodes in the legs. Medications may also cause your legs to swell including hormones like estrogen and testosterone, certain blood pressure medications, steroids, and antidepressants, including MAO inhibitors and tricyclics.
