Chunking Hair Color Techniques

If you want to add a dash of color to your hair but want something a little more racy than typical highlights, try chunking your hair color. Chunking is when you add color to large portions of your hair instead of the small strands colored when highlighting. This gives hair coloring a fresh dynamic and also allows you to test out a possible color that you may want to dye your entire head of hair in the future. The best chunking hair color technique is the foil method. Start by sectioning off the large pieces of hair you want to color and secure them with pins. Take your first chunk of hair and lay it flat onto a medium size strip of foil. pour the dye or bleach directly onto your hair on the foil and using a hair color brush, smooth the color through the hair. Fold the foil over the chunk of hair. Move on to the other sections of hair you are adding color to and repeat the process. Make sure you check the directions on your hair color and do not over process. Leave it on long enough for it to take and then thoroughly rinse your hair. Once you rinse and dry, you're ready to show off your new chunky color!
