Is literally, softening of the brain but the term is used to include degenerative diseases of the brain generally. It can be caused by vascular insufficiency or degenerative changes.The syndrome associated with encephalomalacia is primarily one of loss of function including somnolence, blindness, ataxia, head pressing, circling and terminal coma.
