Fifth Disease

Fifth disease is a common childhood illness. Fifth disease is also known as the "slapped cheek disease" because of a rash that typically appears on the face. Fifth disease is typically spread by coughing or sneezing. Some other symptoms of fifth disease are runny nose, fever, headache, and sore throat. The rash appears after the flu-like symptoms, first on the face and later over the rest of the body. The rash typically lasts from 2 to 5 days. Fifth disease is contagious only during the flu-like symptoms (before the rash appears). Fifth disease is treated with fluids, rest, and pain relievers.
