Finger Callous

A finger callous results from constant irritation and pressure on a certain area of the finger. It might be from holding a pen or pencil at school or work or it might be from carrying heavy boxes at work or using a shovel. Irregardless of the cause, there are preparations available over the counter to get rid of calloused hands. Generally the skin needs to be exfoliated and then heavily moisturized. This can be done by chemical means or using an emery board or file. In more serious cases, surgery may be necessary, but usually that isn't the case. After removing the callous apply rich lotion and a dab of petroleum jelly. If you continue doing the work that caused the callous in the first place, it will return, so try using gloves or wrapping your hands with sports tape for more difficult tasks. A little protection goes a long way. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dermatology-1011/callous-finger.htm

I first started getting them on the side of my middle finger (towards the palm more), but now I am getting them in the thin part between my thumb and index finger. Thirty years ago they seemed not to bother me so much as they would just stay a day or two and then go away.
