Flat Affect

Flat effect is characterized by a severe reduction in emotional expressiveness. People who suffer from mental disorders such as schizophrenia and depression. People with these conditions may not show signs of normal expresssion. They may speak in a monotone voice or have diminished facial expressions. They may also appear extremely apathetic. This condition is also referred to as blunted effect.
