Fracture Cuboid Bone Treatment

Fractures of the cuboid bone in the foot are often associated with other fractures and dislocations. Indirect injury often comes from a sprains or twists; direct injuries often come due to a misstep or a direct hit. These injuries are sometimes misdiagnosed as ankle sprains. The treatment for a fractured cuboid bone includes a short leg cast to avoid pressure in the area for 4 to 6 weeks. Certain types of fractures will only require a walking boot. In more serious cases, surgery is indicated to repair the damage. Open reduction and internal fixation of the cuboid through surgery may require the use of bone grafts.
