Meniscal tears are among the most common knee injuries. Athletes, particularly those who play contact sports, are more at risk for meniscal tear than anyone else. There are two menisci in your knee; each rests between the thigh bone and shin bone. The menisci are made of tough cartilage and stick to the surfaces of the bones they rest on. One meniscus is on the inside of your knee and the other meniscus rests on the outside of your knee. The most common symptoms of a meniscal tear are knee pain, swelling, tenderness and limited motion of the knee.
