Palliative Medicine

Palliative care is a form of medical care that focuses on reducing the severity of disease symptoms, rather than striving to provide a cure. The goal is to relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for those dealing with serious or chronic illness. Palliative care can also be provided in combination with standard or curative forms of medical treatment. It should be noted that palliative care is not confined to strictly end of life or hospice care, but is also of use for those living with ongoing pain or discomfort. While not a new concept, the use of palliative care has expanded in recent decades. For more information visit www.aahpm.org
