Paralytic Ileus

The paralytic ileus is a paralysis of the intestine. It can also be know as a blockage. The intestine does not have to be completely paralyzed to be considered a paralytic ileus. In fact, any prevention of the passage of food through the body (a blockage) can be considered paralytic ileus. Paralytic ileus happens mostly after a surgery. It can also result from drugs and/or injury.
