Parts of Nerve Cell

There are 4 major parts of the nerve cell. The major part of the nerve cell is the cell body (soma). The cell body produces all proteins the rest of the cell. The cell body contains the specialized organelles such as the mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, secretory granules, ribosomes and polysomes. The second part of the nerve cell is the neuronal membrane which serves as a barrier to enclose the cytoplasm inside the neuron. The next parts of the nerve cell are the dendrites which are like branches that stretch out to receive information from other cells. Finally, there are the axons which send electrical signals.
