Peg Tube Feedings

PEG tube feedings are a way to tube feed a patient over a long period of time. A percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube is placed directly into the stomach through the abdominal wall. PEG tubes are placed with the assistance of an endoscope, the scope goes down the throat to assist in guiding the placement of the tube through the wall of the stomach. The surgery is simple, quick (usually about 20 minutes) and involves little risk or discomfort. The tube extends outside the body and can be taped to the abdomen when not in use.
