Pup Rash and Pregnancy
A PUPPP rash and pregnancy are very common. PUPPP also know as Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plagues of Pregnancy is a rash that only affects those that are pregnant. PUPPP rashes begin on the abdomen in the stretch marks, but do not include the belly button. This rash is very itchy and extremely annoying, but it is harmless to the mother and the baby. While the exact cause of PUPPP rash is unknown it does not have any association with preeclampsia, autoimmune disorders, hormonal abnormalities, or fetal abnormalities.

It is called "puerperal urticaria of pregnancy," or "PUP." That overinflated name means rash during pregnancy that causes little red spots. In my practice, I see it about one out of twenty patients. Usually just reassurance is all that is needed when the case is mild.
