Stretch and Sweep Induction
Stretch and sweep is also known as membrane sweep, also know as membrane stripping. What takes place is the midwife moves her finer around the cervix to stimulate and or separate the membranes around the baby from the cervix. This will cause release of the prostaglandins which can help to kick start labor. The women would need to be at least 37 weeks along in the pregnancy. Recently common practice has been to induce labor by the end of 42nd week of pregnancy and is still very common. It is said that induced labor tends to be more intense and painful possibly leading to other pain relieving meds.
