Symptoms of Spinal Meningitis in Adults

Meningitis is defined as an infection of the meningeal membranes of the brain and spinal cord. The infectious etiology can either be bacterial or viral in origin. But there are some instances that drugs can cause meningitis-like symptoms. There are three distinct layers of meninges, arranged from the outermost to innermost these are the arachnoid, dura mater, and pia mater. They serve to cover and protect the brain and spinal cord from any extrinsic or foreign insult. The symptoms of spinal meningitis include neck and nape pain, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, tingling sensation of extremities (paresthesia), and infrequently any Kernig sign or Brudzinski sign.
