What Can I Do to Ripen My Cervix

Many women wonder what they can do to ripen their cervix, so that they can induce labor. By 38 weeks, most women are ready to have their baby, but most doctors won't induce labor until 40 weeks, or beyond. There are different things you can do to prepare your body for labor. You can take herbal supplements, such as evening primrose oil, black or blue cohosh, and red raspberry leaves. You can also stimulate your breasts, have sexual intercourse, or take a hot bath. Though some may recommend it, it is not wise to take castor oil because it may cause the baby to have a bowel movement, which can be dangerous at delivery, due to the meconium.

I want to use this in order to help ripen my cervi ... I want to use this in order to help ripen my cervix. I was told that it should be taken both orally AND inserted vaginally. Do I need to buy two different 'types' of evening primrose oil? Like, a pill form (to take orally) and a gel form (to insert vaginally)?

Evening Primrose Oil acts as a prostaglandin, which ripens or softens the cervix. It's also useful for softening scar tissue from abortions or IUD damage. This will soften/ripen the cervical tissues and increase the flexibility of the pelvic ligaments.

Oxytocin is the drug of choice for labor induction when the cervical examination shows that the cervix is favorable. The use of this agent requires experience and vigilant observation for uterine hyperstimulation, hypertonus or maternal fluid overload.

After intercourse the woman should try to keep the semen around her cervix for as long as is comfortable. Semen contains the wonderful natural prostaglandins that help ripen the cervix. Orgasm also releases hormones to assist uterine activity.
