i had a membrane sweep with my first pregnancy 5 days after my due date it didnt hurt but was a bit strange i had a show the next eavning at ten pm then my baby was born at 7 thirty the next morning so i belive it worked for me . im now expecting my second baby and due in 3 days time ... What happens during induction?

The RCOG Guidelines on Induction of Labour emphasise that a membrane sweep should be offered before other forms of induction are considered. Sweeping the membranes does not seem to put babies under any additional stress, so there is no reason why you should not have a home birth after your membranes have been swept.

Nick, Ellie and I have a talk and we decide that we want to go with the membrane sweep and breaking of waters and I say I do not want that registrar anywhere near me to do that. ... I had a sweep on MONDAY ! ... We have another one on Tuesday if nothing happens at the weekend, then if all else fails induced next Friday. Can't wait to meet little willmer now and feel like a whale! ... Had one at 40+2. I was already 5cm dilated but had no contractions. Nothing happened. Had another 48 hours after that.
