The apple is one of nature's superfoods. It's packed with nutrients, vitamins, and fiber. The proverb "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" is one to take to heart, as a balanced diet that includes lots of apples can help prevent a lot of diseases and keep your immune system strong. Apples are very versatile as well, and can be included in many dishes in addition to being eaten whole or as sauce, and made into juice, cider, or vinegar. Apple pies, turnovers, and danishes can be a delicious treat, and apple butter is a great spread for toast, biscuits, or bagels. The apple is in the fruit family, and can be found at your local supermarket in a number of varieties. The most popular types of apples are Granny Smith, Fuji, Washington, and Red Delicious.
