I have heard using baking soda will kill crabgrass, however I am afraid this will kill my 'real' grass. I would prefer to use a natural deterrent. ... I also live in Orlando, Florida. I have used the baking soda to kill crabgrass. It usually takes only about a day to see results. It dosen't seem to harm the other grass.

It is purported that you can wet a patch of crabgrass, pour some baking soda on it, ... I agree that baking soda should kill weeds. It is a salt, and would have the effect of drawing moisture out of a plant’s leaves. Once that happens the foliage dies. The root would not typically die, unless it was a young plant.

I have not tested putting pure baking soda in soil. I have mixed it with water to kill fungi and it does work. Also, I was told that BS are non-targeted meaning it will kill anything. So yeah, you might want to restore the good organisms you have killed by ... Hmmm? What's this about baking soda killing crabgrass?

I have an old lady as a client who swears by baking soda to kill crab grass. I was like yeah right. But she got some and poured it on the crabgrass and surrounding St augustine. I be damned if the crabgrass wasn't dead this week and the St. augustine looked fine.

Considering the myriad problems with Floratam grass, what’s the down side to letting the India Crabgrass take over the lawn? It looks pretty good so far. PS. the baking soda works! ** Crabgrass tends to decline during the cooler months and is easily killed by frost and freezes.

Yes, I mixed baking soda with water. Did not kill any crabgrass. Also I hosed down the crabgrass before sprinkling on the dry baking soda. Did not kill crabgrass, weeds or even the grass. Shepherd;

Solution: Crabgrass is best dealt with in the spring. In early winter look for brown patches in the yard, crabgrass is the first to die from frost. Make a note of where the crabgrass is and in the spring before it gets out of control use a herbicide to kill it.
