Distressed Furniture Painting Techniques
The whole point of distressed furniture is to create an aged appearance. You could try Rust-Oleum products. Another idea would be not to sand off the varnish before you paint. Just paint over it with a primer. Also, try using glue to crackle it. Any white glue will work as well as the 'crackle medium'.
